James Franco recently announced that his production company, Rabbit Bandini Productions, purchased the film rights to "The Disaster Artist,” a memoir about the making of the film, The Room (Wiseau, 2003).
If that sentence didn’t make any sense to you, let us clear a few things up. The Room is hands down the best worst movie ever made. It’s so bad, it’s good. It was written, produced, directed, and starred the disaster artist himself, Tommy Wiseau. Wiseau has been referred to as a “mysterious misfit” and is often compared to Ed Wood, director of infamous sci-fi flop Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959).
The Room is an incredible disasterpiece. Watch the trailer for “The Room” here. I challenge you to guess which actor is Tommy Wiseau. I’ll give you a hint: one of these things is not like the others...
The film’s supporting actor Greg Sestero and journalist Tom Bissel co-wrote a memoir about Sestero’s experiences on the set of The Room. The book is called “The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside the Room.” It was released last year from Simon & Schuster.

Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg of This is the End (2013) have already signed on as co-producers for the adaptation. Last month, Rogan confirmed that Franco will star as Tommy Wiseau. This is pretty exciting, especially after seeing Franco’s scene-stealing performance as the arms dealer “Alien” in Spring Breakers (Korine, 2012). Try to imagine Franco’s interpretation of this:
The adaptation is still in the development phase, so a projected release date has not yet been announced. Until then, we recommend watching the original source of inspiration. The Room is available for rent on DVD from Netflix or you can check it out at one of the Rocky Horror-esque screenings: http://www.theroommovie.com/screeningspop.html I suggest watching it with a few of your closest friends, while under the influence of something. My recommendation is currently illegal in 48 states, so if you’re a law abiding citizen over the age of 21, vodka will work just fine.
If we still haven't convinced you, here are some more great one-liners from Tommy:
